I love visiting schools, libraries, bookshops and festivals to meet young readers. I offer a range of workshops based on my books for nursery to Year 2 aged children. “Nicola Kent came into our playgroup to talk to the children about her book, The Strongest Mum. The children sat entranced as Nicola read the story and then helped them to create their own book character who they called Daisy the Lionicorn. The children came up with lots of ideas for things that Daisy might have in her bag and Nicola skillfully created an amazing drawing for them, which we are going to frame for the wall. 

The next day one of the parents of a child who had listened to Nicola, enthusiastically reported that her four year old daughter had insisted on writing and drawing her own story when she got home. Her mum said that, for the first time, her daughter had really understood how children’s books are put together through a mix of imagination, creativity and illustrations.  What an important lesson the children learned and hopefully one that will encourage them to both read and write stories themselves in the future.
